HiSAM Super Saturday

FreeA new, fun-filled, family-friendly, free event at Hawaiʻi State Art Museum! Hands-on art activities, live music, and photo booth. Super Saturday is for the whole family! Spend quality time together making art and learning something new. Enjoy the air-conditioned museum galleries or run around on the front lawn! A collaboration with the HiSAM Museum Gallery Shop x MORI.
Schedule
- 10:00 a.m. museum galleries open
- 11:00 a.m. event begins
- 12:00 p.m. live music by Kailua Moon (until 2:00 p.m.)
- 3:00 p.m. event ends
- 4:00 p.m. museum closes
Art Activities
- Activities run 11:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. Allow about 30 minutes per activity to finish an item to take home.
- Block prints: Sheanae Tam, Kamakani Konia. Pre-cut blocks will be provided. Attendees will learn how to ink a block and “pull” a print to take home.
- Watercolor collage: Lisa Shiroma. Attendees will learn how to paint with watercolors and make their own colorful papers to use in making a collage to take home.
- Photo clip critters: Lauren Trangmar. Go to the Photo Ops photo booth to take free photos, and then make a clothespin photo clip critter to display it!
All activities are indoors (covered, air-conditioned, seats at tables).
Live Music
Kailua Moon, 12:00 – 2:00 p.m., ground floor, indoors (air-conditioned, limited seating).
“Kailua Moon is a romance between traditional Hawaiian music and modern pop and Americana. Formed in 2016 by Hawaii-born slack key guitarist Danny Carvalho and Nani Edgar, a young kumu hula and singer-songwriter from Ventura, California.”
Food and Drink
Food vendors Tambry & Mochi (sweet mochi treats) and Love Puff (cotton candy). Snacks and water will also be available.
